The First International Workshop on Open Educational Resources

Call For papers

Since Open Educational Resources (OER) were adopted at the 2012 World OER Congress (Paris declaration), there has been increasing interest worldwide in open education initiatives.

Additionally, there were several calls and initiatives from Both ALECSO and UNESCO to provide open education worldwide and ensure equal learning opportunities to everyone. While this approach looks appealing in reducing learning costs, as well as in enhancing learning quality and facilitating knowledge sharing, several challenges might hinder the full adoption of OERs, such as locating and selecting the most appropriate resources among the thousands that are published and are available online, and trusting them. Additionally, new automatic learning assessment applications are being implemented using Artificial Intelligence (AI) can provide smart examinations and learning in open environments.

Therefore, this workshop will focus on responding to such challenges described above, pedagogy, tools, policies and strategies to enhance learning using OER. The topics for this issue are varied and include but are not limited to:

  • State of the art of OER;
  • Guidelines and frameworks for adoption of OER;
  • Open Licensing;
  • Learning pedagogy and assessment in OER;
  • Authoring tools for open education;
  • Application of AI in OER;
  • Adaptive learning using OER;
  • OER and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs);
  • Inclusive OER for students with special needs; and
  • Case studies of using open education in schools/universities
  • Open educational practices

Experts from ALECSO and the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University will present and discuss both ALECSO initiative and China “Belt & Road” initiative to adopt OER worldwide, including the Arab region. Specifically, they will present the new release of OER adoption guidelines in the Arab region with the collaboration of ALECSO and the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University.

Part 3: Panel session
